Is a Professor and the past Civil Engineering Dept. Chair at the University of Texas at San Antonio after serving as leader of the geotechnical/transportation group at Washington State University. He has over 30 years of experience in pavement engineering and has contributed over 120 journal papers and 6 books in this area. He has co-authored with Dr. E. Masad the textbook Pavement Design and Materials published by Wiley and Sons, which is currently in its 2nd edition (2024). He has served as the lead in many National studies (NCHRP, FHWA, ASCE) as well as State DOT studies for Washington and Texas. Dr. Papagiannakis has won several awards, including ASCE’ Most Innovative Green Engineering Award (2016 & 2017) and the Geo-Institute’s C.L. Monismith Award (2019). He is the founder and past chair of the Pavements Committee of the Geo-Institute. He serves as an Associate Editor for the ASCE Transportation Engineering: Part B: Pavements Journal. He has organized and co-chaired many international conferences (ICTI Pisa 2014, ICBMP Thessaloniki 2011, 2015 & 2019 and AM3P San Antonio, 2020). He is an avid sailor and cyclist. |
