Reopening of the Inca Trail Network of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu and Archaeological Park of Machupicchu

Sernanp also announced the opening of the Piscacucho Interpretation Center of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu.

The long-awaited day of the reopening of the Network of Inka Roads of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu has arrived. From Thursday, July 15, activities and tourist visits to this world wonder resumed. Fulfilling strict biosecurity measures to guarantee the health of its visitors, tour operators and personnel of the protected natural area, reported the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp), an agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment.

On its first day of reopening, dozens of national and foreign tourists were received and gathered early at the Piscacucho del Sernanp checkpoint. A total of 10 organized groups of visitors arrived in this sector, together with support personnel (porters), who gathered for this ceremony amid typical dances and hubbub of the local population, as well as authorities and representatives of unions from the tourism sector. that gave the protocol opening.

The reopening of tourist activity on routes 01, 02 and 03 of the Inka Road Network of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu – National Archaeological Park of Machupicchu, takes place after one year and six months, as a result of joint work in the technical tables, regional and local authorities, the competent entities of the sector, tour operators of the Cusco region and Sernanp, through the headquarters of the Machupicchu Historic Sanctuary.

As part of the criteria that have been taken into account for the reactivation of tourist activities on the aforementioned routes, the Biosafety Plan / Guide (covid-19) has been prioritized for the attention of visitors. Likewise, trainings, meetings and socialization workshops have been promoted on the measures established in the sanitary protocol, in order to guarantee optimal and safe attention of visitors to this Network of Inka Roads, said Ernesto Escalante, head of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu .
 

Opening of the Piscacucho Interpretation Center

On the other hand, within the framework of this activity, Sernanp reported the opening of the renovated Piscacucho Interpretation Center of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu, whose museum space will benefit national and foreign visitors who come to this sector each year, and will also contribute to the economic development of the population in its surrounding area.

As explained, this space allows visitors to learn more about the natural and cultural heritage of our wonder of the world. Currently this Interpretation Center is mandatory for visitors to routes 1, 2 and 4 of the Inka Road Network.
